Vintage Day Out

Recently I worked for Fairfax Newspapers on a Saturday and was assigned the job of taking photos of the Vintage Day Out at Alexander Park in Greenlane.

This is an event where lovers of all things Vintage get together for the day and enjoy live performances, have high teas, do lots of shopping and meet new friends.

The Edge radio station in Auckland recently got 'One Direction' fans together and created a massive human banner. I went along with my camera and took some photos for the 'Stuff' website.

Below is the link to the human banner video The Edge radio station created.

Real Estate, The Kings Arms 15/03/12

Went to see 'Real Estate' play last night at the Kings Arms.
My friend was so excited about seeing this band and had very kindly brought me a ticket.
She didn't want to miss anything, so we got there really early and settled in for the evening.
We actually both got asked for ID on entry by the security guy.
Now I am not going to reveal my age on here but put it this way after being asked I felt so awkward for the security guy.
He was about to find out how old I was and it was going to be really embarrassing.
Lucky for us he didn't make a big deal out of it and let us pass by.
We both felt pretty chuffed with ourselves after that but really I thought... (I think I only got asked as my friend looks alot younger than I do.) haha
Anyhow back to the band. My word amazing guitar playing combined with sweet, surfie pop songs.
The kind of music to play on a summers afternoon with your friends around.
Favourite songs of the night are 'It's Real' and 'Out of tune' and I've posted the videos for these songs below.
Now please excuse this image below as it was taken amongst the crowd and I was down the back.
Plus it wasn't on my professional gear as I didn't bring that gear along.

The final Big Day Out, Auckland, New Zealand 2012

The final 'Big Day Out' was so much fun.
I had a great bunch of friends with me and we had no queues for beers, toilets, food etc
We were able to move between bands with ease and had plenty of space.
The place had a real relaxed vibe and this made for a great day.

Music wise I discovered a band called 'The Vaccines' from the UK.

World Cup Sign with a difference

Just found my image on the sideswipe section of 'The Herald' today.
This is a rival paper from 'Fairfax' so no idea how it got there.
Anyhow here it's incase you haven't seen it already.

Bit of a laugh.

Kathryn Wilson

On Thursday I photographed the lovely Kathryn Wilson for 'Fairfax Newspapers'.
I really love these images and wanted to share them.
The brief was to show two shoes from her upcoming collection to be shown at NZ fashion week this year.
Ideally they wanted images of one shoe on each foot and a close up portrait shot. They also wanted the images to be fun and colourful.
Kathryn's studio is amazing and very well lit already. So I used mostly daylight with a bounce flash off the ceiling.
This is what how they came out.

The Hunter Collective show 'One'

I am part of a creative group called The Hunter Collective and we're having our first exhibition together this week. The opening will be on July 28th at 6.30pm at The Digital Darkroom in Mt Eden.

My images chosen are taken of a lady from Glen Eden called Brenda and her cat called Star. The work captures Brenda's love of fixing up Toyota Supra cars and her cat Star out protecting his turf.

The invite for the opening event information below.

You are invited to an exhibition by a dynamic group of contemporary visual artists: The Hunter Collective.

We have backgrounds in photography, graphic design, painting, illustration, craft and advertising.

For 'One', our first show as a collective, we have each followed a hunch, a little voice, or a calling of sorts, to produce work that is meaningful and potent, playful and surprising.

We would love if you would share with us this celebration of self expression in The Digital Darkroom's warm and friendly atmosphere: 273 Dominion Rd, Mt Eden.

The opening event is on Wednesday, July 28th from 6:30 pm. Come along for the preview and first option to purchase. Finger food and drink provided.
The show runs for 3 weeks during normal retail hours.

Okay so I've been going to the Big Day Out for years now. I've only missed it four times and two of those times were when I was living in London.
I've taken literally hundreds of photo's of this event but never right up in the very front of main stage. This is what i really want to experience.
